Literature

Expertise by Luca Fiorentino

A multifaceted artist, he has managed to leave his mark, always innovative and experimental, in almost every artistic field, from graphics to sculpture, from set designs for films to paintings.

In this work, he depicts the Pharaoh's dream narrated in the Book of Genesis. The dream was interpreted by Joseph as the alternation between seven years of abundance and seven of misery. Cambellotti represents the history with seven skinny cows coming out of the water and approaching the seven grazing cows to devour them.

The artwork is the largest known version with this subject. Cambellotti reaches the highest point of his compositions on paper, succeeding in using monochrome watercolours to create true paintings. This drawing can rightfully be considered a finished work on a par with a painting. Taking stylistic aspects into account, it can be dated between 1919 and 1924. Among other things, the rural theme was extremely dear to the artist, who was socially committed to improving the living conditions of the peasants in the Agro Romano area.
